My best find in years!
Dr. Bufithis, take heed: Trash diggers probably found your manuscript.

While we were walking the dogs today, I spotted a handwritten page. I quickly scooped it up. To my horror, madre told me the whole notebook was in the opposite direction on Saturday and pages were strewn across the street. I kept my chin up and did find a second, nonsequitor page of the same notebook. And here is what I found (spelling will be as it is in the manuscript; glosses will be marked with question marks):

PAGE 129
talking about it in glorious details.

Wow, Sarah, we have been talking for over one hour. I will see you tomorrow after school, Am off Tomorrow afternoon. I shall try to finish my assignments tonight afterwork. [Afterwork -- the new word for afternoon and/or evening. Sorry, I won't snark any more...]

Okay, Segum, (??? Segun? I can't tell.) I will see you tomorrow, I have loads of assignments to do too. I shall try my possible best to finish my work too by tomorrow What is your schedule for friday, [No longer a proper noun afterwork...oh, damn snark...back, back!] this week, Segun?

Am usually off on Friday after school, why did you ask?

Am just wondering, what you normally do at weekends?

Mostly, I walk around the city, window shopping as you call it here. post some letters to friends and family. I do my laundry, Grocery shopping some times things like that at weekends What is your weekend like Sarah?

Well, I do most of the things you mentioned and more. [I am sure the "and more" is why they are still talking even when they're supposed to be leaving.]

Like what more? Yes, I do play soccer on sunday mornings. I read novels, go to the movice once in a while too. [May be new paragraph here, can't tell if it's indented or just...sort of line shy. The joys of handwriting, eh?] Since I don't smoke no drink, I don't see any need for clubs. I went

PAGE 130

to a club here with some of my classmetes last year. the smoke in that club put me off totally. I got home all my clothes were smelling of cigarette smokes. The music was good and all, but I couldn't stand the smoke in there. [I'd like you to know, as I was reading this aloud to madre and the dogs, I exclaimed out loud at this point, "Stop talking about the smoke and get on with it!"] my eyes and nose were running. So I go to the movie once in a while and listing to music in my apartment on the radio or play my African music on tape.

Now you are talking, because all work and no play is not good for your health. Am glad you have some outside school activities. We may go to the movie this weekend then.

Okay, Sarah, we may go to the movie this weekend. But what more do you say you do?

Well, for one, I love to dance. I don't smoke either, but I drink every now and then. Mostly, I drink when [I want to nail the transfer students] I go out to the club or house party. Things like that.

Okay, Sarah, try and find out what movie you will like to see this weekend and try to make sure that its in the evening after siac(???WTF???) o'clock on saturday please Because

---------
I read the next two pages aloud to Oscar, as he seemed interested I what I had. We (Me, Sev, and Oscar) all cuddled in bed, and I am happy to say that he listened appreciatively and did not wander off.

PAGE 251

He will laugh at you, and give you a long lecture as to why he is not interested But in a coup of years, say, 8-12 years after you have put some reliable candidates in to various posts, and he knew he can make the difference in the people's life Am sure he will accept the challenge.

Am glad I came to you first. All what you said makes a lot of sence. You know your father better them any one I know.

We must do this by ourselves. Get all the possible candidates involved and int to them that we are membes (???) of "African Child" that aim to get our continent back from the greedy crooks and Put Africa back on the right track.

Did you say, this research has been carried out ait some Higher Universities?

Yes, am sure of it.

Including University of Lagas?

Yes, why, all these quarhow (???WTF ALERT???) Now segum?

Am just wondering if my father is not already aware of the research.

PAGE 252

Am sure he must have heard of it. But he may not be aware that his name is in the list of candidates.

In order not to create personal biase each candidates name is replaced by a number, and each name the number changes, so the people doing the research analyses will only have the facts about each candidates but not the name. Besides University of Lagas may be doing research analyiss on a candidate from Zambia or Sudan for instance. And another University may be doing Zambia and or Sudan at the same time, the results are sent to Oxford for final tablelation and the chosen candidates is recorded in the case of your father all the Universities that did the research on Algeria, your father came up in top.

He will definitely win any election you put his name to in Nigeria today.

But has you said he will not budge(???) unless he is sure to be effective and can make a even a little difference

------

My theory? ESL student. The spelling is too good for an American, and that weird hangup with omitting I? I do it sometimes (too many years of taking foreign languages that generally omit pronouns will do it to you) so I know that particular tic well. Also, see the excessively formal and textbook type of conversation (no American even knows how to use "shall" correctly unless your teachers beat it into your brain. Repeatedly. With a spiked club.) See also the no capitalization of the day names.

Based entirely on the handwriting (which you can't see, of course) I say it's a boy. His handwriting is eerily familiar to Cai's, especially some of the strange A and E and the N/M you can't tell apart because it starts the humping early and trails around after looking lost.

What are your theories?

The ESL thing was my first thought, too, with the super-formal conversations. I hadn't thought about the lower-case days of the week, but that's true, too.

Also: were you here last night? LOL. I...totally don't even really remember last night. >__> I've been so hermit-y lately. :( I'm sorry. You must drag me downstairs sometimes. Oooh ooh and we have to play Mario Karts or Sing Star or something soon. :)

Yeah, maybe the writer is from one of the African countries that speak French...

I was there kind of late, but you weren't home yet, I don't think. I'll definitely spend the night tonight so I can get an early start tomorrow (the petsitting season, it has started.)
