11:17 am - Someone 100 years from now
|
Is going to wonder about my choice of scrapbook paper and binder design for the S. Kent St. kerfluffle. (See the "typewriter in the credits" post earlier for where this is coming from as to the absurdity.) Let me describe the situation: PHW heard that a whole block of houses were under the gun for rehab or demolition. We tried for about six months to get them to rehab, and they said, "No, no, no!" We made our case at the BAR (Board of Architectural Review) and they did not allow them to demo. But they still didn't want to go to rehab, and appealed to the City. The City overturned the BAR's decision. Then PHW got out the petition sheets to protest and we filed a lawsuit. They finally sold the properties to someone who says he'll rehab.
As you can probably tell, this was laden with drama and a lot of hard feelings on the part of the paper's editors, for reasons I don't want to mention right now (but it will probably make it into a scrapbook one day...)
So what did I use on the scrapbook? It's a pink and white plaid cover, with delicate blue flowered and vined paper. It's got a very Easter feel to it. It makes your teeth ache just looking at the darn thing.
Now, why did I do this?
* I bought about 15 scrapbook covers a few years ago for $1 each, a little assortment of each style. The pink is what was left in my stash.
* I got the paper on sale at Big Lots. Fiskars paper for $2. Can't beat it. I stocked up.
So, in short, I was not making this scrapbook with my tongue in my cheek, thinking of Peeps and Easter bunnies and May flowers. No, I had my hand firmly in my linty pocket, trying to find a few more pennies. But 100 years from now? Someone will be wondering what twisted person made this scrapbook. And I can proudly say I did.

10:39 am - Morning randomness
|
* The furnace is getting its yearly cleanup today. That's usually fun.
* Last night I made a necklace. How much do glass bead necklaces sell for? I don't think I'll wear it (first I have to get the clasps on, which means finding my clasps...I have some. Somewhere. Really.) and so it seems natural to sell it. It is a pretty little thing, if you like the rose quartz type colors. Also heavy. It can save your life in an attack by becoming a deadly weapon.
* Will need to find a scrapbook cover for the latest pages I made. I hope there's one upstairs.
* My stomach hurts. I think I'm getting lazy in my old age. It's the same kind of stomach ache you got when you didn't want to go to school. (Or maybe my tummy is telling me not to eat a biscuit before bedtime.)
* I want an espresso. Except see "my tummy hurts" as to why that's not a good idea.
* So how many necklaces will I have to make to afford a Wii?

12:29 am - Two more useless things
|
"I'm too min/maxed to die!" is almost surely going to be in an icon sometime or other
and
According to a quizlet on MSNBC.com, I am not sexually satisfied. Except...yeah, being asexual does sort of mean you don't care about that, so obviously I am not satisfied. Except that I am. Yee. Haw.
(Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that I'd not actually OBJECT to sex. But I think I'd likely go, "Ho hum, well, that was nice. Maybe we can do it again sometime. Let's play Mario Karts now!" Which would be sad, except I rock at Mario Karts. Practically undefeated, except for when I do something stupid, like give my match race competitor a minute head start. I still have to give them like a thirty second head start to make my blood start pumping, though. Ahh, you can tell by the way I'm going all rapturous that I want a Wii so I can have the new Mario Kart game, can't you? Why must my habits be so expensive?)

11:35 pm - Clean like a crazy person
|
Wow. I think I cleaned for about four hours tonight. Not finished yet. Hopefully it won't rain tomorrow and make the tub leak, because it's time to bathe Aries.
Anyway, what did I do...
* Put down baking soda at a stinky section of floor in the living room. I think it was left over from the cats, but I'm not sure.
* Moved out the TV cabinet thing (yes, this little slip of a girl is manly enough to move fully loaded cabinets around) and hosed it down with Pee Pee Solution to cut the smell, maybe. I think it was wafting out from back there. I would have sworn I hosed it off once or twice before, but I did it again.
* Vacuumed the downstairs, minus my room and the bathroom.
* Dragged the Vacuum upstairs with one hand and vacuumed the steps with the hose.
* Forgot to mention I used carpet cleaner on the stair pads. They still look disgustingly discolored. Will try again with Resolve later.
* Vacuumed the closet and hall, and put rug cleaner on the area rug that used to be in the living room. (It's in the closet now, FYI.)
* Cracked a window in PJ's room, because that was the only stifling one up there. Closed the door, and it might stay closed this time. (Hah hah.)
* Set up the exhaust fan. Discovered closet window is not opening right. Am peeved at it.
* Washed out a litterbox and tried some "crystal" absorbing litter. The cats were skeptical, but Oscar used it first. Not sure if they're going to like it. It may be too "crunchy" for their liking. I was just hoping to cut down on the clay particles everywhere. *shrugs*
* Then treated myself to two red paper lanterns I got at the dollar store. They even work! Now I just need to hang them...somewhere...
* Scarlett whined again to come out, but she didn't like seeing Aries AND Sev at the door. I wish she'd be sociable...
I'm starving now. Think my stomach is eating itself...

11:19 am - I don't wanna work
|
Oh, I have something I want to do (make a new database in Access.)
But the power just cut out about five minutes ago. I don't want to get started on it and then lose my work. The power has so far cut off twice in three years down here. Once, the painters tripped a circuit with all their equipment. I walked in that morning to no alarm on the door and no lights in the house, and no phone to call for help. That was fun.
Today? I'd JUST gotten the computer warmed up. It takes forever since its brush with Trojans From Hell. I felt like screaming in primal rage and frustration. Twenty minutes later, we're finally working. -_-
Here we gooooo! *opens Access with dread*

1:48 am - Random life update thing
|
* Aries came up lame this morning. Wasn't coherent enough before work to do anything other than feel that yes, her little foot was hot, and yes, she was limping, but there were no visible wounds. I told her no walk until she was sound again.
* Dragged madre over in the afternoon when I discovered Aries had broken her dewclaw, and that was probably causing the pain. I have no earthly idea how you could even break a dewclaw, actually, but she's talented like that. They were rather long, so I had her hold Aries while I trimmed it as gently as you can with rusted clippers. She didn't complain, and yes, that cleared up the lameness. No, she did not get to go for a walk with Flurry today.
* Repotted some plants. Am hoping the burro's tail hangs on until Scarlett goes home or I make room for it at the office, as it is awfully delicate. (Of course, every time it breaks, you can stick it back in the dirt and grow another one, so it's not that tragic...just frustrating.)
* The possible geraniums I thought I spotted under all that dead grass? Yep, they're red geraniums. But I think having all that grass piled on top of them rotted their leaves. One had some flower buds, but it looked suspiciously withered and limp. It may not bloom. =/ The hostas don't seem any worse now that I uncovered them.
* I think Scarlett wants to roam the house, but maaaaan, she hates the boys. And then she gives me the third degree about it. Sev lays right at the door when I'm sitting with her, and she invariably sees him and throws a tantrum. What am I gonna do, Scarlett? He's my cat. He wants to know who I'm hanging out with behind closed doors.
* The chemical smell is lingering in the laundry room. Bleh! What IS it?

Was not bad. I've got a couple little things to do, and then I'm calling it a night. (After 8BT, of course!)
Some random thoughts to amuse you:
* I hope carrots don't go bad. I'm currently eating some that were supposed to expire yesterday. They don't taste funny, at least...
* Our Cinco de Mayo board meeting was...nonexistent. We sat around and had beer and pretzels. I'm not shitting you. Hey, I don't mind. I get paid for it, whether I take notes or not.
* Red Mage is awesome. He is awesomely awesome for talking to Warmech for three episodes and not dying yet. Awesome!
* I think I better hadn't eat any more of these carrots. I'll try the blintzes of dubious age next... No, I'm totally not trying to avoid work tomorrow or anything... I'm trying to eat the leftovers before they spoil. Don't look at me like that.

The second place finisher in the Derby, and the only filly in the race, somehow broke both front legs and was euthanized on the track. You hate to see shit like that, especially after she'd had such a great race. I think the worst part was that I had a bad feeling something was going to happen today. At least they didn't get it on film, although I really hate the casters for not saying any more about her afterwards and glossing over it like she was just slightly hurt. Second place isn't good enough once you're dead?
Maybe Eight Belles and Barbaro will get together in horse heaven and hang out. They could have great imaginary babies...
In much less serious news, the place hosting my site is evidently having issues. I was getting 510 errors the other day (I was basically told it was my fault, as they didn't see anything wrong, so it had to be a miscoded script or htaccess file, neither of which I have on my site.) Right now I can't load my site at all (server not found, so says Firefox.) Do they work on the weekend? No idea. I put in my service ticket anyway.

I do not understand you one bit. My cat-fu fails with you. I'm glad that we're pals now that I've shared pita chips with you, but does that mean you have to scent mark everything in my room in gratitude?
Also, I appreciate the guard duty, but chances are slim anything is coming through my bedroom window. The pacing and jumping and guard growls are hard to ignore. Please go to sleep.
Much love, Satan

11:08 pm - OMFG

Some kind of chemical spilled/burst/dripped/fell like mana from heaven in the laundry room. The stench is terrific and overpowering. Wow. Don't know if the water from the rain leaked into the cabinets and it was something in there or what. There's no easily identified source, but it looked like it had splashed again the one cabinet door, so I'm thinking the ceiling...
If I die in my sleep tonight, check the trashcan in the kitchen for the napkins and the top of the brown filing cabinet for the substance. It will be mixed with a vinegar and water solution. DON"T SNIFF IT. X_x;;;

After you die... the Beetlejuice Waiting Room
After death, you will end up in an overcrowded waiting room sitting beside Beetlejuice. You've been given the number 736 076 827 378 919 023, but they are currently serving number 3. Good Luck.

When I saw the Beetlejuice Waiting Room on her test, I had a suspicion I'd end up there. Surprise!
LOL, Nihilist Bear. Awesome.
------
Unrelated, when I was thinking today, when I die, I suspect I'll leave all my money to charity. Not because I'm really all that altruistic, but because I don't want any of my greedy relatives to get a damn thing. Animals need more money. PHW needs more money. And my toys could start a museum. Awesome!

1:13 pm - All right, I splurged
|
But I haven't been clothes shopping in a year, probably. (I'm not lying...the last thing I bought were two pairs of blue jeans on clearance sometime in the summer, because I have literally worn my other blue jeans until my ass fell out of them. And I'm still wearing them for work clothes.)
So I hit the clearance racks. I found a cute little plaid skirt, a black corset-like top, and another black cotton top. Was $5 and $7 for the tops and $16 for the skirt. And then they had the wallflower units for half price, so I stocked up (lots of cherry blossoms, sweet pea, and cinnamon, I think it was.) $24 well spent, and it's going to last for many months. Aaaaand then I treated myself to the totally useless Webkinz horse figurine and a pack of trading cards (again, my first purchase of Webkinz good since last fall, IIRC.)
A bit more expensive than I wanted, but the hell with it. I deserved it for all the shit I've had to deal with since December. I might as well make myself feel pretty for a bit. (NB, Lolitas are bribed with fancy clothes. And small dogs.)

2:40 am - Why can't my job be nocturnal?
|
Nope. Wanted to go in at 10 to...today and leave at noon to miss the downtown crazies. Flurry had a violent attack of diarrhea, and I have the night shift with her.
I'm going to be right tomorrow, just you wait and see. I was half delirious today, even after espresso with three sugars. *sigh*
Have watched through the first half of the '97 version of Lolita, the movie. I want a girl just like Lo in that film to play Stasia's part when TSFH gets turned into a major motion picture. (I jest, I jest. Well, sort of.) I just want this out there so you can honor my wishes posthumously, should it come to that. I was practically having a nosebleed at the section we all know very well (puella ascendens et cetera) because that was just spot on (expect Jeremy Irons looks a bit...dumb...in this movie sometimes. Malachai would rather have his intestines tied around the Maypole than look out of sorts like that.) I'm sort of wondering if they toned down the "brutal, brooding European" look in the film so people didn't go even more batshit crazy than I'm sure they did. Hum just looks...too nice. He is not supposed to look nice.
*picks the nits like crazy* I'm not going to watch the second half...I know how the sordid affair ends and I don't want to see it, frankly. That's my problem with movies...I lose interest halfway through. Oh, sure, I'll play the same game of Final Fantasy for seventeen years, but two hours of my life is too long to watch a movie.
PS, washed my hair with Horton's Whoberry Shampoo and Conditioner For Kids. It smells really good. I almost ate my hair the last time I used it. Why am I using kid's shampoo? My hair pitched a hissy hit with the V05 I'd been using, and the Pantene dries it out too much. Back to the kid's shampoo for me! Plus the detangling aspect is nice. Olive oil on my face and whoberries in my hair. I'll be edible soon.

6:05 pm - That's a lot of grass
|
Remember that reeking grass Forrest tossed against the house and around the clematis? It was finally dry enough today to rake it up.
TWO 32 gallon trashcans full of grass, and that's still not all of it. O_O (But it is what I was smelling, so that annoyance should be gone.)
I put signs on the cans that they had yard waste in them. Who's betting Forrest (aka ASSHOLE) shows up tomorrow and puts his coffee cups and his boxes and his mangled hoses on top of it?

I hate when people lie about stupid shit. Witness:
Printer: "Are you at work?" LP9: "Yep, I'm here." P: "Well, we tried to deliver your order, and no one answered the door!" Bullshit. They never got out of the car. I went to the back door and waited. LP9: "I was here, and I saw the van coming, so I went to the door. No one knocked." P: "Oh, he knocked!" Buuuuuuuullshit. LP9: "Did you come to the back door?" (The one that's got a sign pointing ENTRANCE -> to it.) P: "No, the front door." Buuuuuuuuullshit. There's a doorbell on that door. It will ring through the ENTIRE house. Why knock at that door when there's a doorbell? P: "Were you there yesterday?" LP9: "Yes." (I had the back door open yesterday, for cripes sake!) P: "Well, you didn't answer then, either. We won't bring them now until Monday." LP9: "All right, I'll pick them up this afternoon."
*headdesk* Don't fucking try to mess with my head. Lie if you want to your employer, but I was here, and you did not knock. I'm betting you did not even get out of your van to try. I mean, it takes, gee, thirty seconds to walk the perimeter of this house. I spotted the van; I got up and walked to the back door and waited perhaps another thirty seconds. When no car doors slammed, I walked to the window on the parking lot side to look, and you were GONE. WTF mate? Why lie? If you didn't get out because you saw no car, fine. That's a valid excuse. But don't lie about it and say you knocked, just say you thought no one was here. Fin.
PS, I hate Apple Blossom. It's like Winchesterites drop 100 IQ points. They start frothing,"ParadeParadeParadeParadeBEERParadeParadeParadeBEERBEERBEER!!!!!" on Thursday and it only gets worse from there.

------- Am experimenting with that abused and neglected dog. I'm letting her have access to the living room tonight. NOW, I took up the rug a while back, because it stank and I can't get my mother to share her steam cleaner =P and I took up the other rug that's lightweight, because she'd think it was a blanket and chew the hell out of it. So that leaves...wood floor, and the pads on the rocking chair. Nothing that can't be salvaged if she has her first accident since Christmastime.
I'm actually more concerned that the cats will be pissed, because they are lazy fucks now and stay in the living room. I took the litterbox up (otherwise Aries would eat her favorite treat, yum yum!) and doused the location with Pee Pee Solution. We shall see. The last time I am 99% sure Oscar peed in there was when a feral cat was chillaxin' on the front porch, so I can't really blame him...but if they dump a load in the corner where the box was, then I'll know they're just too lazy to walk to the back porch.
PS, this weather fails.
PPS, my new walkway saved me from muddy feet when I set out the trashcans tonight.
PPPS: This was a night of awesome comics. See? Looking for Group 8 Bit Theater
I honestly can't tell you which one has me more excited right now. (NB, 8BT will only work until Friday at midnight, and LFG will change on Monday at midnight, if I'm not mistaken, so look before then or miss the joke! Or, uh, go back in the archives. Yeah.)
LFG should be accessible to everyone. The thing that has me so happy about 8BT...you may not get unless you know some Final Fantasy.
